HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PIECE

Every BOTERA piece is expertly crafted and built to last, using the highest quality metals and stones. Because we are confident in the quality of our pieces, each one comes with a lifetime warranty in case of any potential defects in the materials or assembly. However, with proper care, your piece should never stop shining.

    HOW TO WEAR YOUR PIECE
Generally, your piece should be the last thing you put on before leaving and the first thing you remove upon returning home. Here are our rules for when and when not to wear your jewelry to keep it in tip-top shape:
    • Remove your piece before engaging in any activity that risks physical damage, such as exercising or handiwork.
    • Do not wear them while sleeping to avoid accidental damage.
    • Remove your piece when washing your hands or using corrosive products that could permanently damage its metal and stones.
    • Avoid any contact with perfume, cosmetics, or household products since they contain ingredients that could discolor your jewelry.

    HOW TO STORE YOUR PIECE
When not being worn, your jewelry should be stored in a safe, cool, and dry place. Here are a few storage tips to keep your pieces protected against the elements of daily exposure:
    • We recommend storing your piece in its original BOTERA packaging or in a jewelry box lined with fabric that will not scratch it or cause damage.
    • Never store your jewelry in rubber containers as these can result in tarnishing and darkening.
    • Store each piece separately to avoid damage. Pieces can get scratched when they come into contact with one another.
    • Chain necklaces should be closed, wrapped, and laid flat to avoid knotting and tangling.
    • Never keep your jewelry in the bathroom or any humid location.
    • Always keep your jewelry away from direct sunlight, intense sources of heat (like tanning beds, saunas, or hot tubs), and extreme temperature changes.

HOW TO CARE FOR PRECIOUS STONES
Always take special care to protect your pieces with precious stones, as even diamonds and emeralds may become broken or ground down by repeated hard physical contact. We especially recommend the following:
    • Regularly check the prongs and settings of your stones for shifting or loosening. You may do this by gently shaking the piece of jewelry close to your ear. If you hear a slight noise, this means that the stones are no longer perfectly secured.
    • If you are in the slightest doubt, it is advisable not to wear your piece of jewelry until you have reached out to us about the issue.
    • Have your jewelry professionally cleaned if your stones start to lose their shine or become dull.

    HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PIECE
For lasting brilliance, we recommend cleaning your pieces regularly to help avoid residue buildup, which can dull their natural shine. Here are our step-by-step guides for how to keep your jewelry clean:

STEP 1. Mix a little soap (must have a neutral pH) with lukewarm water and use a very soft toothbrush to work the mixture into your piece and clear away any residue. If dirt persists, carry out the same process in clean water. Always be gentle to avoid damage.

STEP 2. Once your piece is clean, rinse it carefully with lukewarm water. Let it air dry or gently dry it off with a soft microfiber cloth.

STEP 3. For extra shine, use a polishing cloth to bring out the natural brilliance of your piece.

STEP 4. Ensure your piece is completely dry before storing.

    SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR EMERALDS
Emeralds are softer stones than diamonds, making them require more specific and gentle care. With proper care, these precious gemstones will last for generations.

    • Never use hot water or extremely cold water to clean emeralds as this may dry out the stone.
    • Never soak emeralds in soapy water, and avoid harsh detergents or aggressive cleaning products that might dilute or remove oils from the stone.
    • Never soak emeralds in solvents such as alcohol, acetone, or paint thinner.
    • Never clean emeralds ultrasonically or with steam or cleaning solution.
    • Never expose emeralds to hot lights, excessive solar radiation, or other sources of heat as they may dry out fracture fillings.
